"Leche con lentejas" es un libro comestible y nutritivo que cuenta la sencilla vida de una chica de 17 años que pensó que se iba a comer el mundo y fue él quien la devoró. Una historia imaginada a partir de un hecho real: su casamiento forzoso y obligado en un pueblo de la provincia de Palencia, recién estrenado el siglo XX. Y es también el relato de un mundo perdido, lleno de vocablos únicos, verbos en desuso, epítetos olvidados, dichos y refranes que se cultivaban en esa tierra del norte palentino como si fueran patatas o cereales para alimentar y enriquecer un lenguaje rico, ancestral, eminentemente agrario que ya anunciaba su desaparición. Ferminuca, la protagonista, decía que «ser mujer era algo pequeño en un mundo grande». En realidad, quizás fuese al contrario: «ser mujer era algo grande para un mundo que se quedó pequeño».
